Experience matters because the most important service a union provides its members is the ability to bargain good collective agreements. It doesn’t matter how many courses you take (organizing for power), it will never be the equivalent of years of hands-on experience. We win in practice not in theory.

That is why it is important to have leaders and staff who have the experience you need to win at the bargaining table.
